The school offers both undergraduate and graduate programs as well as interdisciplinary opportunities. Its Executive MBA program had received a first-place designation in global rankings by the Financial Times in 10 out of 13 years as of 2020. The innovative and interdisciplinary nature of the school is supported by research centers and diverse faculty.

The Structure and Operations of HKUST Business School

HKUST Business School is one of many schools in the broader HKUST network, which is known for its emphasis on cutting-edge research and international collaboration in a variety of fields. This innovative and interdisciplinary environment includes sister institutions specializing in science, engineering, the humanities, social science, public policy, and a dedicated institute for advanced study.

The business school itself is a large and multifaceted institution. Despite being less than 30 years old, it is already home to six departments that cover the core business-school disciplines of accounting, economics, finance, operations management and information systems, management, and marketing. These in turn are supported by 11 dedicated research centers and roughly 4,800 active students—of which roughly 30% are at the graduate level. These students are joined by a diverse faculty over 140 members strong, hailing from more than 20 different countries.

Students at HKUST Business School have a variety of programs to choose from. The undergraduate students can pursue majors in any of the traditional business disciplines, as well as specializations such as Global Business and Quantitative Finance. Various interdisciplinary programs are also available, designed to take advantage of the wide expertise available from the HKUST sister institutions. These include undergraduate degrees in Biotechnology and Business, Mathematics and Economics, and a dedicated Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program; among others.

Achievements and Real-World Impact of HKUST Business School

HKUST Business School is also well-known for its highly-ranked Executive MBA program ranked number one on 10 separate occasions. Jointly taught by faculty from the HKUST Business School and the Kellogg School of Management, it has ranked among the world’s 3 best executive MBA programs in every year between 2005 and 2018.1
